Weenie, Skipperdee, Patience & Fortitude
Once upon a time my older daughter trick-or-treated as Eloise and nobody guessed who she was.
For those of you who do recognize the name and love, love, love her (and know why I wrote “love” three times), there’s interesting news on the artistic front.
Hilary Knight, who illustrated Kay Thompson’s Eloise books, has donated his personal papers to the New York Public Library. The material includes sketches for more than 60 books—including mock-ups, layouts, preliminary drawings and photographs of the Plaza that Knight used in his research—plus theatrical posters, contracts and publicity materials.
There’s a lovely appreciation of Eloise’s illustrator on the Book Patrol blog and an item in the New York Times here.
I hope there’ll be an exhibition soon: I’d skibble down to the NYPL in a New York minute.
